I bounce among media throughout the day. In the morning, I record voiceovers for promotional videos for my job. In the afternoon, I work further on the script, suggesting what will be onscreen. Someone I’ve never met is doing the visuals. That’s OK. He’s better at it than I am and has better resources. In the evening, I collect images for a video project that had gotten stuck. A good dose of Maya Deren and Godfrey Reggio gets me back on track. The logic of dreams frees me to change some ideas. During the day, in the cracks between work as I wait for documents to compile, I work on a website and mailing list. I’m using obscure software, partially because the developers are helpful. For one project, I have to figure out technology that I’ve never seen before and two languages I hadn’t known existed. The developers give me just enough information to steer me in the right directions and encourage me when I hit successes and challenges. At home, I try to figure out why things that look good on one screen are illegible on another. I need to bang my head against my monitors a bit more and find the right questions to ask. Eventually, I’ll get these things done.
