How we vote here: I show up at the polling place and am identified. They hand me a white envelope and a yellow envelope. Behind a partition, in the equivalent to a voting booth, slips of paper are neatly laid out. Yellow slips have the names of the mayoral candidates. White slips have the logos of the parties/slates running for city council. (There are also blank slips of each color, possibly for write-ins.) I put a yellow slip in the yellow envelope and a white slip in the white envelope, and drop them in the blue box. I ask a poll worker to take my picture with my phone as I vote. I tell them that I'm a new immigrant and that this waiss my first election. Poll workers say "Mazal Tov!" and that they hope that I will return for many more.
