Friday afternoon: a man opens two fresh containers of white cheese and a plastic bowl of sausages and cabbage. He discards their lids and leaves the containers on the ground outside a construction site, probably for the cats. At the center of town, a young woman unpacks a guitar case, places it on the ground, and fills it with totems: a teddy bear, a tube of candy with a unicorn's head, and an inflated Pikachu. When I pass the spot again after shopping, she is gone, but I see her later outside a pizza joint, drinking turkish coffee with a group of older men. In my back yard, shifting layers of bird song are punctuated by the thud of falling grapefruit splattering when they hit the ground.
