The supermarket is mobbed with people buying chips and beer. The cashiers seem baffled. Nattering among themselves in Hebrew, Arabic, and Russian they are shifting around, with the managers jumping from lane to lane, opening checkout counters and voiding errors. Of course, several registers break down. I have a basket of my usual stuff (cheese, grapefruit juice, sweet potatoes, peanut butter) and didn't expect the mob either. I realize that almost all of them are speaking English, in North American accents. Right. It's the Super Bowl. People are talking about napping before the game, since kickoff is at 1:30 AM. Now that I've been reminded, I'll try to catch video of the half-time show in the morning.
