There's a traffic jam of baby carriages on this bakery patio. The one from our extended family, with a baby born a few days ago, is blocking the one with the two-month-old. People stand and shuffle carriages and chairs. The mothers coo at each other's infants. More small children sit with families or wander about. One little girl toddles up to a docile dog and babbles at it in a private language that it seems to understand. Another child sits on the narrow ramp at the exit. She has to get up to allow our party's carriage and wheelchair to leave. Once we've passed, she sits down as she was, her back against the wooden wall, playing with her phone.
