Once, my mental maps of towns were full of record stores. Now, they track available bathrooms. I'm getting to know this area's shopping malls, ubiquitous and pretty much identical. As they have since my teenage years, my inner maps show South as up. I'm as confused by West and East as I am by right and left. "Just remember where the water is," I've been told in several cities. I have no inner dowsing rod. Without actually seeing them, I cannot find the ocean, lake, or sea.
