Most, but not all, of the shops on the main street are open. Most, but not all, of the bakeries and falafel joints are not. They find closing for Passover less difficult and expensive than cleaning and converting everything. Many, but not all, of those that have closed are taking the week to do renovations and repairs. Some stores drape fabric over non-Passover products. Some have separate ice-cream freezers, clearly marked either as "Kosher for Passover" or as "not kosher." The cafe that I visit for lunch has only a few baked goods on display. Other than those, it makes salads and coffee, serving everything in to-go cups and plates. The salad that I eat should come with a Passover roll but doesn't. Another customer yells at the staff about something that I don't understand. I decide not to complain.
