At the bus stop: a young woman staring at her phone looks up, seemingly terrified, when another woman asks her if their bus has come. When the other woman asks her again, she bites her nails then darts around to the other side of the plexiglass barrier. A small, dark woman with Coptic crosses tattooed on her forehead and temples chatters excitedly into her hot pink phone in a language that I don't recognize. A raven caws from the roof of the bus stop. An old woman in a parka and heavy scarf seems to be imitating it. I realize quickly, though, that she is calling out "Kar! Kar!" -- "Cold! Cold!" A girl beside her, dressed in the artistically shredded remains of a t-shirt and shorts, looks up at her in annoyance then returns to poking at her phone.
