In the supermarket, a young mother with a stroller juggles three large, light bags of table snacks. Giving up on handling everything, she tilts the stroller back and layers the bags on top of the child. The child throws them off. I scoop them up and hand them back to the mother. She puts them on top of the child again. The child throws them off again, laughing. He thinks it's a game. She doesn't. At the register, my purchases come to more than a hundred shekels, so the cashier offers me a package with a kiddush cup and other items for ten shekels more. I don't go for it, but once I leave the store I wish that I had. I think of asking the multilingual greeter if there's a German word for "reverse buyer's remorse."
