At the only neighborhood cafe open on the Sabbath, a tall man wanders in from the patio, staring blankly ahead. He wears a yarmulke and tallit. A cigarette is tucked behind his right ear. Coming back out with a glass of water, he crouches near a low wall at the patio's edge, striking up a conversation with two neatly bearded men seated on the wall.
