As I emerge from Hebrew class, I hear people singing with a piano somewhere in the neighborhood. The sound echoes and reflects off the buildings' stone walls. I can't locate the source. Today is the actual Day of the Unification of Jerusalem. (My city celebrated on Thursday because the logistics were easier.) Every radio that I hear seems to alternate "Jerusalem of Gold" with last night's Eurovision winner. It's hard to picture two more disparate songs. Playing each, though, projects a sense of effusive patriotism, so it all seems to fit.
