A screech. A thud. Dogs bark, but stop long before the static drone of the horn. Looking out the window. I see skid marks tracing a small car's journey out of a parking lot and into a tree. Arriving quickly: a volunteer medic (on a three-wheeled motorcycle first used to clear sites after bombings); two EMS workers, putting on their orange vests as they trot to the car; police; an ambulance; maintenance people with chainsaws, cutting down the injured tree. A team shovels and sweeps sand onto oil (either leaked from the car or the cause of the skid). Caution tape blocks the street behind the crash. Just past it, further away than the tree was tall, a man pushes his child's stroller straight down the center of the road.
