Rainbow flags fly over the shore road, across from the hotels. The Pride parade is in the city just south of ours, but I can't get there this year. At the heart of my city, it's just another Friday. Buses are crowded with soldiers coming home. Supermarket shoppers collide like overheated particles. Few apologize. The city's small book fair, still up across the street, is less frenzied than the one I visited in the larger city two nights before. Still, there's little I can both understand and afford. I lug my groceries back to the bus stop so I can go home, unpack, and get some sleep.
