On the bus home: a young couple with seven children squeezes past a soldier with a pink Hello Kitty backpack. The woman runs back to grab a baby bottle that bounces down the steps. Four children sit on two of the seats. The other three squeeze into an unused space, knocking over a wastebasket. Another bus stops. Its driver gets out to confront a van that has sideswiped him. Teenagers selling flags pester drivers stuck on the highway. Another teen in shorts and a faded Phish t-shirt brandishes a lacrosse stick like a staff to part the traffic, miraculously crossing the road without harm.
